The Phantasmagorical Emporium of Fundraising!

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

A church member recently gave me several items for our Ebay fundraising project (another $350 profit in April!), and among them were some lovely silk scarves and an amazing black silk evening bag with gold and seed pearl decoration and gold satin lining. I was told it was a gift from Paris that had lain in a drawer for fifty years.

Those items prompted a trip to the Emporium, a high-quality consignment store that recently opened in a two-story antique home in Bantam. The owners were pleased to open an account for St. Michael’s so we now have a new creative outlet for continuing fundraising.

If you have gently worn, or hidden-in-a-closet and never worn, designer or Talbots style of clothing, please contact Jo Ann. Also, artworks that you are no longer enjoying on your walls can be consigned to this wonderful place.

But please do not bring items directly to the Emporium since appointments and inventories are required. Please contact Jo Ann for pick-up.

We continue to sell items on Ebay – anything silver or silverplated, antiques, fine China pieces, crystal. But now, with the Emporium, we can widen our reach.

Sing-along at St. Michael’s April 18, 4:00

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

The Litchfield County Choral Union (LCCU) will be holding a sing-along at St. Michael’s on April 18. The sing-along will feature the works of Aaron Copland. The cost is $10 per person, and all proceeds are donated to the Soup Kitchen of Torrington. Music will be provided or you can bring your own.

Please download the LCCU-singalong-flyer for details on the music and a phone number to call for more information.  Also, please send the flyer on to your friends who like to sing. Any and all singers are welcome, no special talent needed!

We would like to thank Goldsmith’s Art & Framing Gallery in Waterbury and Lakeville Interiors in Lakeville for sponsoring this event.

We look forward to your joining us at St. Michael’s for this fun fundraiser and a chance to sing through some pieces you might know and love, and some you might not yet know.

Newfoundland and Labrador here we come!

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

The plans for our Mission trip to Newfoundland and Labrador are heating up ! I just got an email today from Reverend Ed Bonnell, Deacon of our host Parish in Portugal Cove, NL. He is a facebook user and I have just created a link to some of his amazing photos of the glacier formed cliffs near his home, on my facebook profile ! So if you’re already a friend of mine on facebook, check them out! If not, feel free to friend me !

Also, he is setting up all kinds of good works for us around their area, including having us do a cleanup and cook a meal at a center for at-risk youth, called Choices for Youth. He and his son and Godson are also scoping out what beaches to target for our cleanup efforts.

On the Labrador side, our group has diminished a bit further than we thought, we are currently down to 5 missioners for this leg of the journey. But our work there will still be wonderful, offering a 3 day camp program for the children and youth of St. Timothy’s parish, as well as enjoying fellowship among the Inuit villagers there. The Reverend Julie Hiscock has been most encouraging and we look forward to this more rustic part of the journey too !

We are still fundraising for this trip and we will also be doing an art supplies drive, closer to our departure date, to bring as gifts to the Inuit children in Rigolet.

Teddy Bear Tea Party will be here before the teddies know it!

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Teddy is hoping for a new bowtie to attend the Teddy Bear Tea Party!

On Saturday, May 8, 2010, we’re planning a special version of our very popular Tea & Tarts but this one is geared to younger tea partiers and their favorite stuffed animal companion. No formality (well, maybe a little – we do stress good manners), just fun! Mark the date: Share the good news with your children, grandchildren and all their little friends. The Teddy Bear Tea Party is coming to St. Michael’s!
