St. Michael’s Candlelight Service for Advent Sunday, December 8 – 4:00PM
St. Michael’s Episcopal Church presented Candlelight Lessons and Carols on December 6, beginning at 4pm. Lessons and Carols is a beloved English tradition featuring readings from Scripture and exquisite choral music of the centuries – a wonderful mix of classical pieces and Advent carols and hymns. The public was welcome to this wonderful event with free-will offerings only.
St. Michael’s Church, illuminated by candles, provided a beautiful sacred space for this very special service. A prelude of seasonal organ music was followed by the Great Responsory, and the Procession with carols. Seven lessons are then depicted, most of them prophetic. The direction of the service traditionally flows from darkness to light, focusing towards the coming of Christ. Each lesson is followed by a choral piece sung by the St. Michael’s choir and an Advent Hymn, in festal arrangements for Organ, Congregation and Choir. Readers were members of St. Michael’s Parish, including children from the church school.
A Meditation on the Lenten Season March 21, 2010 – 4:00 pm
Lenten readings, poetry and sacred music—featuring St. Michael’s choir—were part of a new and special program to help visitors reflect on the season of Lent. This concernt was open to the public with a free-will offering. You can read some thoughts on this lovely program from Mother Jenni, posted on our blog here.
