“Pop the Trunk” Delivery
# Households Served 59
Total Individuals 144
The next Pantry day is Saturday, July 16, 2022 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am
This month our bags included: mayonnaise, cheese, cream cheese, sliced bread, fresh greens, fresh tomatoes, pancake mix, pancake syrup, instant coffee, canned chicken, fruit, hearty soup and stew. Special fresh greens were generously donated by Vibrant Farms. The St. Louis De Montfort Parish also contributed generously to our purchases. And individuals
continue each month to support our efforts with cash contributions. We acknowledge those privately to such loyal friends.
Household count was lower than we have seen in recent months, perhaps showing the impact of soaring gas prices. The 59 households served still rank at the high end of numbers seen before we adopted our “Pop the Trunk” format during the covid pandemic. A number of families carpooled with neighbors and relatives, a growing trend. In addition to the bags
loaded into cars, 15 bags were delivered to residents at Wells Run and Tannery Brook to seniors who were unable to come on their own.
As noted last month, the cogs in the wheel of this successful operation are our skilled and tireless volunteers. At the heads of the teams, Ann Hodgman plans our menus each month, orders the food and leads the Friday bagging exercise. Rosamond Quay lines up volunteers
for Saturday operations. Maggie Bucklin writes notes to acknowledge gifts from our generous donors. This month we offer a special thank you to Ruth Torizzo who organizes our deliveries each month to seniors living at Wells Run and Tannery Brook in Litchfield and Bantam Falls in Bantam. Ruth distributes our flyers and canvasses those communities, reporting to us on how many bags to prepare for deliveries early Saturday morning, working with the able assistance of Sandy Deacon and Ruth’s friend Connie. Ruth is a fervent advocate for her community of seniors, often reporting on requests and preferences.
We would be glad to hear from you with general questions or specifics about assisting with our plans during the months ahead and the elevated need which seems likely to continue.
Thank you to all who assist us!
