Education for Ministry (EfM) is based on the premise that all baptized Christians are called to be ministers, and that each of us has a unique ministry in the world. In short: you don’t have to be ordained to be a minister.
Most of us have questions about our faith, and find it challenging to get answers. EfM was
created by the School of Theology in Sewanee, TN to provide a framework to work through those questions. A trained mentor leads the group in connecting faith to our daily lives through reading and discussion in a multi-year program that encompasses scripture, church history, theology, ethics and interfaith encounters.
In EfM sessions we learn how to articulate our faith and how to shape our faith into action. We learn to think theologically, to reflect faithfully, and to appreciate differences of beliefs and principles in the spirit of true comity – something we can all appreciate in today’s world.
Over 100,000 people have participated in EfM throughout the Episcopal church since the
program was founded in 1976. Here at St. Michael’s, the next EfM program year will begin in September 12, 2022 and continue for 36 weeks until May.
