DESCRIPTION:7pm – Great Vigil of Easter – meet in Memorial Garden \nThis is the cardinal service of the Church Year. All that comes before and all that comes after hinges on it. It is no longer Lent and not yet Easter. It is both Lent and Easter. We gather in the garden to kindle the new flame and then light the paschal candle. It leads us into the dark church and we travel with the people of Israel from creation through the crossing of the Red Sea into the promised land in darkness\, we bless the Font\, and then in Darkness process into the Chancel where the resurrection is proclaimed\, the lights come up\, we blow out our hand candles\, and we proceed with the First Mass of Easter. \nCome join us in the Rectory (74 South Street)  for refreshments afterward!

DESCRIPTION:At Noon we gather to walk the “Way of the Cross” commonly called “Stations of the Cross” through the church. Stopping at each station (stop) where we commemorate and meditate on the 14 acts of the passion. This lasts about 35 minutes and\, if you have to be back at work\, will get you there by 1pm. \nThen\, at 7pm (Available also via Zoom) we gather for the Full Good Friday Liturgy – The most solemn\, simple service of the year. We begin as the priest enters and prostrates himself before the Altar. We move straight into the Collect of the day with no fanfare\, lessons from Hosea\, the Epistles\, and the Passion Gospel. Then we pray the Solemn Collects as we stand\, kneel\, and stand using our whole bodies to pray for the Church and for the World. Then the cross is brought in with three stations – a mirror of the Paschal Candle’s progress on Easter Eve and we venerate the instrument of Christ’s death and our salvation. Finally we receive the sacrament from the supply reserved on the Altar of Repose from Maundy Thursday.

DESCRIPTION:At 5pm we gather with our Episcopalian neighbours at Trinity Church\, Milton\, to commemorate and celebrate the “First Mass” at the Last Supper\, respond to the “new commandment” to love each other in the Washing of Feet\, and then gather for a fellowship supper provided by the good folks at Milton. We will bringing our Organist and Choir as our offering. \nThen\, at 6:30 we return to St. Michaels for…\n7pm – Procession of the Sacrament to the Altar of Repose in the Chapel\, Singing of Psalm 22 (My god\, my god\, why hast thou forsaken me) while Stripping of our Altar \nAfter which c.7:30\, (available via Zoom also) we begin the 24 hour vigil/watch before the Sacrament on the Altar of Repose in commemoration of Jesus night of Agony in Gethsemane. Unlike the original disciples who “could not watch with him on hour” and fell asleep\, we will take turns from the end of the Maundy Thursday to the Beginning of the Good Friday Liturgy.
