What is the liturgical year?

The liturgical year is the annual rhythm of the church that provides structure and direction in our worship. Our services, vestments, and decoration of the church reflect these seasons of worship.

We are currently in the season of Pentecost, also called Ordinary Time in some traditions. Learn more about the liturgical year from the Episcopal Church or the Church of England.

What is the Book of Common Prayer?

Worship in the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion more generally has been continually guided by the Book of Common Prayer since its first edition in 1549.

The Book of Common Prayer lays out the structure of liturgical service and provides key guidance on our doctrine. Designed to unify worship in the early Church of England, this comprehensive resource contains a Psalter, orders for Eucharistic worship, Morning and Evening Prayer, and much more.

Can I participate in Communion?

Anyone baptized in any Christian tradition is welcome and encouraged to receive communion. If for any reason you do not want to receive communion, please come up to the altar and cross your arms over your chest, and we will know to say a blessing over you. We want everyone to feel fully part of God’s family.

Who is your Priest?

Our Priest-in-Charge at St. Michael’s is the Reverend Ian B. Montgomery. A life-long Episcopalian, Father Montgomery was ordained to the priesthood in 1998 after receiving his Masters of Divinity from General. He has previously served in Connecticut at Saint Saviour’s, Old Greenwich and Christ Episcopal in East Norwalk. He has also served parishes in Paris, Pennsylvania, and California.
